



The Spectacle of AI Technology: Reflections on Ethics and Human Agency

On February 21, 2025, Dept. of HSS, IIT Jammu proudly hosted the fifth chapter of Manthan Series as an impactful symposium 'Spectacle of AI Technology: Reflections on Ethics and Human Agency', bringing together prominent scholars to delve into the crucial ethical and human-centric aspects of artificial intelligence (AI).
The event showcased five compelling sessions that addressed vital issues:
1. Dr. Amitash Ojha, HoD of the HSS department, shed light on the profound influence of AI on user decision-making and personal autonomy, prompting attendees to reflect on their agency in an AI-driven world.
2. Dr. Sushruth Ravish, Assistant Professor from HSS dept, IIT Kanpur, uncovered the delicate balance between transparency and functionality in explainable AI, highlighting the need for prudent approaches in trust-building with technology.
3. Dr. Joby Verghese, Assistant Professor from HSS dept, IIT Jammu confronted the ethical challenges in healthcare associated with AI, emphasizing the importance of informed consent and shedding light on the complexities of AI's decision-making processes.
4. Dr. Sreekumar Jayadevan, Assistant Professor from HSS dept, IIT Ropar, provocatively discussed the nature of responsibility in our interactions with AI, compelling participants to ponder the implications for human relationships and moral accountability.
